90 YEAR OLD HAS PAINFUL LEG CRAMPS

Recently, one reader wrote that his mother was suffering from extremely severe leg cramps. Doctors checked oxygen, potassium, calcium, electrolytes, etc., and were able to find no reason for her over 100 daily attacks. The reader contacted a pharmacist, sending a list of the mother's prescriptions. The pharmacist noted that TWO of her medications indicated cramping as a rare side effect. Doctors are investigating some possible substitutions we hope will help eliminate the cramps. We'll keep you posted.

SURGERY AND DAILY ASPIRIN

Another reader noted that his mother takes 81mg of aspirin daily for heart health. Not normally a problem, except she went through two pre-operation sessions and no-one mentioned she should stop taking the drug prior to surgery! A chance look at the pre-op instruction sheet she received the day PRIOR to surgery noted people should stop taking aspirin therapy as much as a week before surgery! Be sure to ASK about this!
